In the Land of Stories Old
In the land of stories old
Dwell princes brave and maidens bold,
Peasants clever and crones so wise,
While dragons glide through storm-tossed skies.
In this land where tales do dwell,
Fate through them casts a powerful spell;
Old tales play out in strange new ways,
They twist and turn but keep their names.
And when the story’s done all through,
A happy end still waits for you.
This is an expansionary AU of Red Shoes and the Seven Dwarfs which completely got away from me.
Standard warnings for artistic liberty regarding canon apply. That said, one of the most delightful things about writing something in this new-to-me fandom was that I got to be as obvious and derivative about naming as any lazy-day writer could want, because it’s canon that all the names and such are just ripped right out of a children’s book of classic stories. Never fear, though, I did manage to come up with a semi-decent explanation for why things tend to go that way in this universe…
Chapter 1—The Beginning
A prologue of sorts for a fairy tale that starts off simple and predictable, as most of them do.
Snow is worried about Merlin, and Arthur does his best to reassure her.
Merlin’s memory has some holes in it, and his friends decide what they’re going to do next.
The witch left a mess behind, but not all of it was hers.
This wasn’t the best time for someone to start a fight, but fight the Seven shall.
Hans solves a problem, and Merlin and Snow start getting to know each other.
Merlin learns about Snow’s ancestors, and a rather nasty family legacy.
Snow and Merlin have some fun, and Snow asks Hans an important question.
Arthur returns to Avalon, but he doesn’t find what he was expecting.
