Facilitating escapism is my actual job. And it’s a great job, but sometimes it’s also a really hard job because I have to spend a lot of time pretending that the world isn’t on fire so I can help other people get some distance from that fire when they need to. I’m well aware that you don’t come here or go to AO3 or scroll through my Twitter feed or hit up my Facebook fan page to read my opinion about news. Or about my personal life aside from the occasional amusing anecdote or wry aside or brief mention. We’re not going to change that, but since I’ve been on an impromptu ‘vacation’ and kind of letting things online slide for the past couple of months I felt that some explanation for might be required. So here it is:
Things have gradually settled back down at home (although sadly not in the news), so RL is sort of leveling itself out again. And I attended a Content Creators workshop this past Saturday led by some incredibly cheerful, supportive, smart people, and thanks to that I realized that one of the things I’d apparently needed most of all on that level was just a pep talk. I think getting out of the house for a few days helped too, I came home exhausted but honestly feeling a lot better about, well, pretty much everything and ready to get back to work.
On a slightly related side note, if you were at GenCon Indy over the weekend and saw a lady wearing a cat-face face mask with her hair up in double buns, that was me! So now you know, and next year you can totally run up and say hi. 🙂Â
