This week on The Happy Page: A trailer for a live-action movie that doesn’t exist. Yesterday was April Fool’s Day, a holiday which can be really funny or exceptionally cruel depending on what jokes you see and/or get taken in by. Studio Ghibli went for cruel this year on Facebook when they posted multiple (fake) Coming Soon posters for (not happening) sequels to a few of their most popular movies – Spirited Away, Ponyo, Princess Mononoke – and one for a movie we all wish they’d make, The Nutcracker, which as it turned out was an old promotional poster for a museum exhibit they took part in several years ago. 🙁
So I got to thinking, has anyone made any fan trailers for these things? I went looking. I saw semi-promising things, I saw awful things, I saw one thing that made me want to bitch-slap the person who made it. And then I found this week’s video, a live-action fan trailer for Howl’s Moving Castle. It’s cut together from a lot of other movies, but the casting choices were perfect, the special effects are fitting, and the music is beautiful.
If you’ve never seen Howl’s Moving Castle, here’s the official trailer for the US release. Or you can rent the DVD from Netflix.
