Puerquitos, also called marranitos, are a gingerbread-like Mexican pan dulce (sweet bread) which are traditionally shaped like a fat little pig. And they are delicious!
Translation of the recipe used in this video: 5 cups of all-purpose flour, 1/2 cup unsalted butter, 1 cup of brown sugar, 2 large eggs, 3/4 cup molasses, 1/4 cup milk, 1 teaspoon vanilla, 2 tablespoons ground ginger, 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon, 1 1/2 teaspoons of baking soda
For the egg wash: 1 egg and one tablespoon milk (or water) whisked together
Follow the visual directions in the video, then bake your puerquitos at 350°F for 12 to 15 minutes. If yours come out flat like a sugar cookie instead of plump like a piggy, it’s okay – you just rolled the dough too thin. They’ll still be great for dunking in cocoa, milk, coffee or tea.
