This week on The Happy Page: Have you ever seen a come-on ad talking up working for Uber? Have you ever been tempted by their sly promises of being your own boss, setting your own schedule, and making great money? If you have been, I suggest you watch this slightly more honest come-on for a similar but even more flexible service called Tuber. They don’t even require you to have a car!
Seriously, every time I check a job board these days a large swath of the ‘jobs’ posted are come-ons for things like grocery delivery, Amazon Flex, pet sitting, Uber or Lyft. I just went over to get an actual count to back up that sentence, and someone has been posting the Amazon Flex ‘job’ in chunks of 5 identical listings at a time twice a day for the past 8 days straight. Uber is only that desperate about every other week…but maybe that’s because they know word has gotten around about what being an Uber driver actually entails. Either that or Uber has stopped paying people to post their ‘job’ listings. And yes, being paid to spam various parts of the Internet with crap is actually a gig you can get, because even scammers have to hire help sometimes.
As a side note, if you’re ever bored and want to take a browser-safe walk on the wild side, go browse the Gigs section on Craigslist – there is stuff in there you couldn’t make up if you tried.
