I have no idea why I didn’t get this into the Halloween video lineup for 2015, but it was a gross oversight. Awesome, awesome GROWNUP movie – there’s no sparkly Disney bullshit in this fairy tale retelling, and it has almost Tarantino levels of gore. None of it was gratuitous gore, but still, this movie is rated R for a reason and it’s not in any way, shape or form kid-friendly. Kind of like half the fairy tales I reimagine, including the one I’m about to tackle for NaNo 2016 just a few days hence. 😉
Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters did surprisingly well when it came out and there was talk of a sequel, but the original director decided he didn’t want to do the project a few years back and the new director the studio tried to bring in…well, he wanted to reimagine the reimagining, but still have it be a sequel. That wasn’t just a red flag, that was a red flag with blood dripping from it and also on fire. Last anyone heard was that now the studio wants to make it into a TV series and start from scratch with a new cast, so that’s not going to be a sequel either. So where does that leave those of us who loved this movie? Reading Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters fanfiction, most likely.
