It’s Monday, I’m sure we could all use some comedy. You might not normally look to Martha Stewart for that, but she had Bette Midler helping her make this Halloween Bloody Poison Punch, and although it started out a little bit awkward it ended with everybody laughing. Oh, and apparently Martha could care less about what the censors may or may not think is ‘appropriate’ for TV. 😉
A couple of notes about this recipe: You don’t have to use ginger beer or ginger brew, those are…an acquired taste, let’s put it that way, so unless you’re one of the people who likes it you’re probably going to want to use ginger ale instead. If you want an extra little kick of ginger (ginger brews are pretty strong), just get some fresh ginger, grate it, and squeeze to get the juice – which will also be strong, so add it sparingly until you’ve reached the taste you want. Since this is a cold punch, if you want to add spices you’ll need to use a flavored syrup. I recommend World Market for those if you have one close to you, since they have a huge variety and they’re usually cheaper than the grocery store.* The syrups are also nice for flavoring hot cider or coffee or even tea; we usually keep a bottle with a pump-top on it next to the Keurig at our house.
