The plight of the giant plastic spider is not well understood by most people. These extremely seasonal creatures, rarely seen outside of the months of September and October, are in spite of their larger-than-average size completely harmless to humans – they lack venom, or even mouth-parts which can puncture human skin. Most are unable to even move on their own, and therein lies the root of the problem: Giant plastic spiders are completely unable to spin webs for their own comfort and protection.
That’s where humans like you and I come in, creating temporary homes for these beautiful, seasonal creatures. Here is maker Jason Poel Smith demonstrating a method of web creation which utilizes the same substance the spiders themselves are made from to create a beautiful, durable habitat.
I’m going to be trying this in my front yard this weekend, if it works I’ll post some pictures on Facebook.
I realize this week has been a little irregular with the Halloween content as opposed to the regular Monday and Wednesday schedule I said I was going to follow this year. What actually happened is that I was getting Wednesday’s post ready on Tuesday and accidentally posted it instead of scheduling it. Because of the huge gap this left in the weekly post schedule, though, I decided that I really should post another Halloween video today to even things up.
