After a relatively shitty day at work, I came home today to find a little box I’d been waiting for in the mail: the Miskatonic University Alumni Package!
And I thought, I could unbox this on my blog. So I opened it, taking pictures as I went, and I realized something: I realized that taking pictures of unboxing something is boring and looking at most of them would probably be just as bad, so we’re going to skip to the good part. The Miskatonic University Alumni Package contained a university patch, a varsity patch, a Scout-style merit badge patch, a bookmark from the university library, a sticker, an alumni keychain, an enameled lapel pin, five vintage-style postcards with pictures of the university and other Arkham landmarks on them, and a little university field journal.
The design work and level of detail on all of these things is wonderful, the only thing this box was missing from a realism standpoint was the obligatory letter from the university trying to guilt me into making a donation or joining the Alumni Association because something something sports.
I think with Miskatonic University it would probably be something something scientific expedition instead, which might actually get me to send them money or sign up. Although I think almost everybody who goes on their expeditions dies or goes insane…
If you’re wondering why the little patch is in its own picture, that’s because it was tucked inside the Field Journal and I didn’t see it until it fell out into my hand. I’m still deciding what I’m going to put the patches on, possibly on my Bag of Holding because it already has a Night Vale patch on it so I know that fabric takes the patch adhesive really well. If I do…well, I probably won’t take a picture of the bag just for that, but maybe I’ll take a picture of it some day and then you’ll get to see it. 😉 And if you’re wondering why I wanted this package in the first place, let me just state for the record that I quite like Lovecraft and I play Arkham Horror.
If you yourself are at all into the Mythos, the occasional availability of neat things like this are one of the reasons you should be following Propnomicon’s blog. I was actually going to put a post up when the Package became available, but it was sold out before I could. Which also means that there are probably some non-boring unboxings going on out there on the Interwebs somewhere, because I know I’m not the only one who came home to find a long-awaited little box in the mail today.
