As I’m currently miserably suffering through a cold my wife brought home from work on top of us having company, I am going to forgo making a highly original or interesting post in favor of something easier: Talking about comment spam. I checked my blog’s spam filter and found 28 weird little fishies caught in there, and they struck me as funny so I decided to share them.
Six comments were about tree trimming services in Atlanta, one of which told me that the Devil’s Walking Stick is a fast-growing tree and so is the paw-paw. I have tried and failed to grow a paw-paw tree, which makes banana-tasting fruit that looks kind of like a fuzzy green kiwi, but after investigating the Devil’s Walking Stick I now want one of those for my yard. Think the HOA would mind me planting a potentially invasive thorny tree/shrub?
Six other comments had something to do with Clash of Clans. I believe that is a game, and now I know it has dragons, provides level-ups, and can be hacked. Good information to have, I guess.
Some of the remaining comments deserved a more personal response:
Irma has a complicated relationship with registry cleaners and the K-12 educational system. Her brother recommended my website as one she might like, and the fic update for Revelations truly made her day because ‘You can not imagine just how much time I had spent for this information!’ Happy you found what you were looking for, Irma, and tell your brother I said thanks for the site rec!
Nancy Oswald is an established children’s book author (link goes to her Amazon author page) and Google says her personal site may have been hacked – which explains why she was emailing me as Betsy from Germany. She asked if I prefer Xbox or Playstation. Playstation all the way, Nancy. Or Betsy. Whichever one of you asked.
Fannie has something to do with the biomedical field and advised that I shouldn’t buy games online from unknown resources as they could endanger my computer. Appreciate the tip, Fannie!
Isiah and Derick are apparently part of a hivemind collective on livejournal. In identical comments they both liked my page but analyzed my backlinks and found them wanting – their recommendation was that I outsource my SEO to get a better Google rank. Thanks guys, I’ll keep that in mind.
Emilia confused me with her comment on the 4th of July post: ‘Since currently we can use the formulas from before to establish real-world costs for points, this is very helpful.’ Um, you’re welcome?
Colleen is a self-professed snob who works in personal loans. She likes ‘what you guys are up too’ and called it clever, encouraging ‘us’ to keep up the terrific work and stating that she has ‘incorporated you guys to blogroll’. I believe she may think the cats are helping me blog, which is adorable but patently untrue. Still, always happy to hear I’ve been added to someone’s blogroll, Colleen, thanks – sorry I can’t return the favor.
Barry is in the automotive industry, and said he was satisfied with the 4th of July post. He would like me to drop him an email. Sorry, Barry – aka Alfonso – but no can do.
Tammie’s personal site is all about online payday loans, but she said she was delighted to discover my website and will be checking back frequently. Glad to hear it, Tammie!
Chasity has a deep interest in car loans for people with bad credit, but she said she enjoyed ‘reading through an article that can make men and women think’. Not sure what that had to do with me wishing everyone a happy 4th of July, but okay.
Antwan is into loans for poor credit, and said the 4th of July post made excellent points and ‘you simply received a new reader.’ Hopefully he’ll see this. (waves to Antwan)
Anton does direct lender payday loans and thinks I should change the layout of my blog – his critique was not enough content, too much text and not enough pictures. Anton, sweetheart, I’m a writer – course there’s going to be too much text on my blog. I will try to take some more photographs, though. Maybe of the Devil’s Walking Stick I want to secretly plant in my backyard.
Nida’s thing is fixed mortgage rates, but she called the 4th of July post ‘remarkable’ and said, ‘I have got much clear idea concerning from this piece of writing.’ Glad I could help, Nida.
Well, that’s it for the comment spam. Much thanks to Akismet for catching these little fishies for me so that I don’t have to look at them unless I want to. All condolences to Nancy for having her site hacked by a German gamer girl. And no thanks at all to whomever it was at my wife’s office who introduced us to this cold, because I currently want to introduce that person to the thorny branch of a Devil’s Walking Stick.
